Proposed Solution

After researching into different perspectives and problems vital to the critical issue of organ harvesting in China, we have constructed a proposed solution that combines already existing solutions in the most effective way possible.

Our proposed solution consists of:

WHO proposal: increase donation by establishing an equitable organ donation program in China using WHO Guiding Principles on Transplantation

• During the most recent WHA in 2010 - WHO has offered to help countries like China establish guidelines, which would help create an effective and fair system for donation
• WHO has proposed working with China to establish this new system and provide them with local resources such as current data and communication services
• Implementing WHO Guidelines in China will help bring awareness to the public about organ donation and as a result, the organ supply will increase

DAFOH petition: helps victims of Chinese organ trafficking, including executed prisoners and Falun Gong practitioners

• This petition call appeals to the UN’s High Commissioner of Human Rights to end organ harvesting of the Falun Gong practitioners, and to further investigate the prosecution of perpetrators involved in the crime
• Calls upon the government to ultimately end the persecution of the Falun Gong
• 1.5 million people from 50 different countries have signed; petition ends on November 30, 2014

UN plan: reinforce organ trafficking legislation and crackdown with harsh consequences for those who break those laws in China

• Goals regarding these laws and regulations:
• Reinforce legitimacy with United Nations member countries, and become sure of their political obligations regarding organ trafficking and the responsibility to enforce consequences
• Address factors that lead to organ trafficking (such as discrimination against Falun Gong.) 
• Create consistent, worldwide “lingo”, so that confrontation and enforcement can be direct and invariable
• Make corrupt Chinese government officials less corrupt by coming together and fighting organ trafficking as one force
• Treat all forms of trafficking, including organ trafficking, as a crime… A crime against humanity, and a crime that will not go unpunished
